In redesigning its site, MBTW / Watchorn Architect was challenged to consolidate its diverse offering. Supporting two distinct creative teams and a segmented portfolio presentation, the website needed to communicate a unified voice for the firm.
This 2008 iteration of MBTW’s site capitalizes on the firm’s extensive history of architectural innovation, presenting both the creative team and its collective design output in an accessible and meaningful manner. Thoughtful and effective landscape architecture is the common thread, bringing balance to the company’s key operating sectors. This communications platform demonstrates the magnitude of MBTW’s impact on a variety of familiar outdoor spaces.
In designing the site, we were challenged to incorporate pre-existing location photography, images leveraged from a number of disparate sources. Our design system would need to be open-architected and flexible enough to accommodate a variety of image scales and aspect ratios. In realizing our solution, we developed a basic toolset that gave MBTW the means to reconfigure the image area and adjacent text fields in response to any given photograph. This makes for a dynamic presentation in which the portfolio visuals assume centre stage.
