CHARTWELL BAPTIST CHURCH
DESCRIPTION
Supported by a flexible architecture and robust content-management system, Chartwell Baptist Church’s site is capable of accommodating a continually expanding volume of content. A unique visual vocabulary, rooted in the church’s spiritual identity, unites its five core congregations.

We joined a development team comprised of Riordon Design, Electramedia and key members of Chartwell Baptist Church in 2007, providing strategic and graphic design services for a project already well underway. Planned as a sophisticated application of Electramedia’s proprietary content-management solution, the church’s site would push the tool’s core feature set to its limits. There would be significant interchange amongst the church’s managers and the site would need to facilitate the bulk of those exchanges. Most challenging for the team was the need to plan, design and support a permissions-exchange protocol equal in complexity to the church’s multi-congregational structure.

Our design contribution to the site was the first major visual articulation of Chartwell Baptist’s brand identity. Although well described through language, the brand had never been expressed graphically. Functional requirements called for a substantial volume of dynamic text – our approach to typography was key to the success of our proposed aesthetic. Working exclusively with available system fonts, we developed an elegant and extensible visual vocabulary – one capable of responding to a continually evolving body of content.
