FANSITE: THE PRISONER
DESCRIPTION
For our contribution to a fansite for The Prisoner, Patrick McGoohan’s seminal 1960s-era TV show, we built a village, a car and a community. How did we do it? That would be telling.

Our contribution to the fansite’s design called for a host of 3D image assets, both static and dynamic. The accurate modelling of real-world materials in 3D requires significant research, so we sought out the best photographic source materials available.

For The Village, the show’s mysterious and surreal setting, our friend and colleague David Graham White supplied us with original location photography, images depicting locations and architectural motifs obscured or absent from any pre-existing sources.

Our reconstruction of the Lotus 7, the classic auto driven by Six in the show’s opening sequence, was based on several sources, including engineering schematics, photography and texture samples.

With the models completed, we were able to control any aspect of their presentation, animation or interactivity. For example, our design for an interactive walk-through of The Village environment invites visitors to explore various structures prominently featured in the series. They can view these locations freely or as indexed by episode, magnifying their view to produce enhanced detail. By granting visitors control of these models and their display, we hope to better their perception of scale and scope – and make the process of exploration memorable and entertaining.

Coming in 2009.
