We applied the best of our imaging skills to bring the spirit of the Olympic Games to life in a kinetic blend of colour and shape.
For our contribution to CBC’s 2004 Torino Winter Olympics site, we were asked to provide a suite of images representing the Games’ key athletic events. We approached the project with the goal of creating something more than representational – we wanted to capture the spirit of the Games in an expressive marriage of colour and shape.
As we began, we were largely unaware of how our images were to integrate into the event web pages, working slightly ahead of the design development team. To afford us the freedom to explore composition, we modelled the various event components in 3D. With dimensional source material, we could easily adjust the position, scale and orientation of our subjects in response to any given page structure. Our work in 3D yielded a large volume of renderings which we proceeded to dissect in Photoshop, isolating individual colour channels and manipulating detail with a series of image filters. The unique end-result of this multi-faceted process is painterly – abstract but completely recognizable. In total, we produced 16 images which flagged key pages throughout the site. |
